Leona Lewis addresses health issue after breaking down on stage during gig

X Factor winner Leona Lewis has spoken out about her health after she was seen wiping away tears and struggling to sing her hit Bleeding Love, during her gig in Cardiff last week. While holding onto her throat, the singer became emotional and at one point kneeled down on the floor crying as the crowd sang back in support.

A TikTok user, who filmed the moment, said Leona “could barely sing” and that the show was “cut short with four songs from the setlist left unsung” due to her struggles. The 38-year-old has since pulled out of her latest show in Southend, Essex, as she hopes to make a recovery.

Taking to her Instagram page, Leona wrote as part of a lengthy statement: “It breaks my heart to be writing this but after suffering with a sore throat for a few days now, last night during Cardiff’s show, I lost my voice on stage.”

The singer went on to say that while she “tried to hard to push through”, she now has “no voice” and can therefore not perform. “My voice just isn’t there and as a vocalist there’s just no show without it.

“I’m sending so much love, my heart is broken that I can’t perform for you tonight,” she added. Leona also thanked her fans for their support and concluded she will be taking a few days rest in the hope of returning to the stage imminently.
