Gerwyn Price to face darts legend who is still winning titles at the age of 68

Gerwyn Price will be involved in one of the most eye-catching ties of the round when the Bahrain Darts Masters gets underway on Thursday.

Fresh from his ear-defenders stunt at the World Championship, Price is in the Middle East for the first World Series event of the year, which will see eight PDC stars joined by eight Asian representatives.

The most well-known of the Asian contingent is 68-year-old veteran Peter Lim, who has been drawn to face Price in round one. The 'Singapore Slinger' has a cult following around the world for his exploits in the game, as well as his incredible longevity.

Lim made his World Championship debut way back in 1982 and played against the legends of the era, including John Lowe and Bob Anderson.

Lim made history in 1990 when he hit the first-ever nine-dart leg at the BDO World Championship against Jack McKenna. He received £52,000 for the feat, more than tournament winner Phil Taylor picked up.

He soon switched to the PDC, where he had little but he continued to pick up trophies around Asia. He has regularly appeared at the PDC Worlds, as recently as 2020. In 2018, he was one dart from hitting a nine-darter against Gary Anderson on the Alexandra Palace stage.

While he appeared on the World Seniors Tour last year, most of his appearances are confined to Asia nowadays and last year he secured his first WDF title since 2005 when he won the Bud Brick Memorial Singles crown. Another title came along immediately as he won the Japan Open over the same weekend.

So going up against the world's best in Bahrain will hold no fear for Lim. As for the Price, he is making his first competitive appearance since his infamous display at Alexandra Palace which saw him clash with the crowd and then threaten to never play in the tournament again.
