Josh Kroenke vows to back Arsenal in transfer market and hints at internal shake up with 'much more work to be done'

MIKEL ARTETA has been promised that he will be backed in the transfer market this summer – but an internal shake up could be on the cards at Arsenal.

Barring a miracle, the Gunners look set to miss out on Champions League qualification.

They face Everton today on the final day of the season knowing anything but a victory and a Tottenham loss at Norwich means it will be the Europa League for them next term.

Despite that, chief Josh Kroenke, whose family own Arsenal, has vowed to support the club’s manager ahead of the new season to get them back on top.

Writing in Arsenal’s matchday programme, Kroenke said: “Yes, we're in a tough position right now after the last few matches in terms of qualifying for the Champions League, but I think the lessons learned will serve us well.

“Sometimes feeling a level of frustration is the best motivation you can have.

“In terms of bringing players in, we would have liked to have moved faster in certain areas but there are some factors out of our control. Internally we recognise there's still much work to be done.

“On a recruitment standpoint, I will always refer to Edu and Mikel, but I know they have a blueprint of the type of player we need.

“I'll defer to them and support them in every way we can in their pursuit of elevating the quality of the squad.”

Arsenal have reportedly had a club-record £76million bid for striker Victor Osimhen rejected by Napoli.

They have also been linked with Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City, while Lille forward Jonathan David is another player they are keen on.

And Man City are reportedly expecting Arsenal target Gabriel Jesus to submit a transfer request in his bid to depart the Etihad.

And it has also been claimed that the Gunners are set to make a £35million offer for the Brazilian striker as Arteta eyes up a reunion at the Emirates.
