- Dillian Whyte has returned ‘adverse analytical findings’ in a VADA drugs test
- As a result, Anthony Joshua vs Whyte on August 12 has been cancelled
- A full investigation will be conducted into the findings of the drug test
The rematch between Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte on August 12 has been cancelled after Dillian Whyte returned ‘adverse analytical findings’ in a pre-fight drugs test carried out by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA).
A statement from Matchroom Boxing today (August 5) read: ‘Today, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) informed Matchroom, the Association of Boxing Commissions and the British Boxing Board of Control that Dillian Whyte had returned adverse analytical findings as part of a random anti-doping protocol.
‘In light of this news, the fight will be cancelled, and a full investigation will be conducted. Further information on the event will follow.’
Mail Sport understands Matchroom Boxing are working on a new opponent for Joshua on the same date.
Matchroom are exploring the possibility at the time of writing, according to sources and could easily look to elevate the heavyweights on the undercard to a main event slot.
Filip Hrgovic and Demsey McKean are set to square off in the co-main event while Derek Chisora and Gerald Washington also feature on the bill.
Whyte has failed two drug tests in the past. The first came back in 2012 after his victory over Sandor Balogh and the second following a clash with Oscar Rivas in 2019.
Neither Whyte nor Joshua have reacted to the news as of yet. The substance Whyte tested positive for is currently unknown at the time of writing.
