Marcus Rashford among Man Utd stars trying to convince Paul Pogba to stay after £34.2m Raphael Varane transfer is agreed

MANCHESTER UNITED stars are trying to persuade Paul Pogba to stay — as Raphael Varane’s £34.2million Old Trafford transfer was confirmed.

Marcus Rashford is one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s big guns urging the French World Cup winner, 28, to sign a new contract with the Red Devils.

Pogba has so far refused a new deal — meaning United would cash in for the right fee.

Paris Saint-Germain lead the chase but would only fork out around half of the £89m United paid for him five years ago.

A source said: “Rashford and several others have been doing everything to convince Pogba to stay.

"They believe the team would lose a key man if he goes as he’s seen as a genuine world-class talent among the squad.

“He’s also a leader in the dressing room — one of the players the younger ones look up to when the team is struggling.”

Pogba, due back at Carrington later this week, has told team-mates he is waiting to finalise details with United.

But the worry is the midfielder, who initially left United for Juventus in 2012, could go again if PSG put in a suitable offer.

There is a hope the arrival of his international pal Varane — on an initial four-year deal with the option of another 12 months — might help convince him.

United confirmed on Tuesday night the club has 'reached an agreement with Real Madrid for Varane, subject to a medical and to player terms being finalised'.

Centre-back Varane, 28, won 18 trophies with Real, and the Spanish giants thanked him for his 'professionalism and exemplary behaviour' over ten years.
