McKayla Maroney ‘couldn’t stop throwing up’ before kidney stone hospitalization

Severe stomach pain sent gymnast McKayla Maroney to the emergency room this week, she revealed in an Instagram post.

The 25-year-old Olympic gold medalist posted a photo of herself in the hospital on Thursday with her eyes closed and a pink mask underneath her chin.

“Tuesday I was throwing up all day, with severe pain in my back and stomach,” Maroney wrote on the social media site.

“Had to come to ER at 3am because pain kept getting worse, and I couldn’t stop throwing up… Just got my CT scan back. I have a few kidney stones.”

Maroney updated that she is out of the ER now, but “unfortunately nothing has changed, still on pain management.”

Maroney was part of the “Fierce Five” team that dominated the 2012 London Olympics and her “not impressed” face after winning a silver medal will live in Internet lore.

Maroney, now 25, is one of the many US gymnasts who spoke up against Larry Nassar before he was convicted of sexual abuse in 2018. She has used her social media feeds to call for more accountability from US gymnastics for their role in the Nassar debacle.
