Rohaan hits the back of the net for James Tomkins as Crystal Palace defender's horse wins at Royal Ascot | The Sun

ROHAAN hit the back of the net in the Wokingham Stakes for footballer James Tomkins.

The Crystal Palace defender co-owns the horse with pals, and the four-year-old became the first horse to record back-to-back wins in the race – spookily since a horse called Selhurstpark Flyer!

Tomkins told Sun Racing last year how he had won more with Rohaan than medals in football – and he has bagged yet another trophy.

The 18-1 shot was a gutsy winner of the race 12 months ago, but he was struggling for form coming into this year's contest.

He was barely in camera shot approaching the final furlong, but jockey Ryan Moore threaded the eye of the needle to take the six-furlong cavalry charge.

He stormed home to beat Popmaster and Mr Wagyu by three-quarters of a length under a perfectly-judged ride.

Trainer David Evans said: "Ryan knew what to do and instilled confidence into the horse.

"I felt from two out the result was never in doubt. It was a fantastic performance.

"He's a cut above them on his day. He's had his problems, but he was ready."

Moore said: "On this horse I knew from two and a half out that he was coming right back to form and that he was going to win.

"He felt like the horse of old and all credit to David for getting him there."
