Brentford have confirmed the loan deal of Romeo Beckham to their B team for the season

It is the latest surprising development after the 20-year-old trained with Brentford’s B team at the end of the last MLS season.

The move, subject to international clearance, will see the midfielder help Neil MacFarlane’s side as they challenge for the Premier League Cup and play matches abroad.

‘I’m very proud and very happy to be here,’ he said.

‘It was a fun season (in the USA) and there were a lot of ups and downs but I’m excited to come here and see what I can do.

‘I came here at the start to keep fit during the off season. The chance then came to come on loan here and I’ve never been so excited.

His father David, is the owner of Inter Miami and was last contracted to a Premier League side in 2003 when he left Manchester United for Real Madrid

‘They’ve (MacFarlane and assistant coach Sam Saunders) helped me massively over the last couple of months and I’m excited to see what else they can help me with to really progress in football.

‘If you look at Brentford as a club, it’s very positive and it’s a club that is on the rise very quickly. I’m very grateful to be here.’

MacFarlane added: “We’ve been absolutely delighted with Romeo since he arrived with us.

“He came to us from Inter Miami with the aim of working with us during their close season. Romeo has applied himself unbelievably well, he’s really bought into the culture and the group which he has become a big part of.

“I love his standards and the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch.

“He’s been able to get fitter and fitter during his time with us and it leaves him in a good place to now step forward having joined us on loan.

Beckham has come back into football in recent times having initially explored ventures away from the sport after being released by Arsenal in 2014 along with his brothers Brooklyn and Cruz.

That led to Romeo deciding to step away from the game, much to Beckham Snr’s dismay.

‘The other day Romeo turned round to me and said he didn’t want to play football anymore,’ David said at the time. ‘Part of me was devastated but part of me was relieved, too. He’s got other passions and I like that.’

After announcing his decision to instead pursue tennis as a professional career, and training with Andy Murray, he then chose to return to chasing the football dream after a five-year absence from the sport in 2020, signing professional terms with his father’s Inter Miami outfit in September of that year.

Beckham Jnr was seen chatting to former Manchester United attacker Memphis Depay

He made his way back into the game with Inter’s reserve side, Fort Lauderdale, and has impressed after bagging three assists in one game playing on the right hand side in a position where his father David famously starred for Manchester United and England.

His excellent form continued into the summer, following in his father’s footsteps even more with a stunning free-kick while playing for Inter Miami’s reserve side.

Beckham Snr posted his support on social media for his son’s performance, saying: ‘Well done mate so proud. First goal in a Miami shirt.’

Romeo responded with: ‘Love you Dad, that was for you.’

He soon got his first taste of action in an Inter Miami shirt when he was brought on as a substitute in a 6-0 hammering by Barcelona during a friendly over the summer.

The 20-year-old could do little to alter the game’s path having been brought on in the 86th minute.
