Everton are close to finalising a new contract for Anthony Gordon, who was targeted by Chelsea in the summer.

But the Toffees are now on the verge of keeping Gordon, 21, at the club long-term, according to the Telegraph.

In doing so, the Merseysiders will stave off any renewed interest in the winger when the January transfer window opens.

The Blues had several bids turned down for the England Under-21 international with Everton unwilling to sell their prized asset, who they valued at £60million.

Tottenham were another club keen on Gordon, whose current deal is due to expire in 2025

"He is slowing down the tempo, he is dribbling too much, and is not beating people as he should be doing.”

    Gunners urged to avoid Ronnie

Nigel Winterburn has told former side Arsenal they must avoid signing ex-Man Utd man Cristiano Ronaldo at all costs.

He said: "It’s a no from me and there’s only one simple reason; it would be a short-term gap to fill.

"A lot of people might say that’s great, let’s do it.

"I wouldn’t be able to argue with that, but I think the way Arsenal start games, they press high, they’re full of energy, and Ronaldo is an unbelievable player, but I don’t think he has the legs to be able to do that any more.

"I’m certain he doesn’t. I think Arsenal would have to change their style of play to bring him in, and I think that move would be a complete disaster."

Eight-cap Brazilian Cunha, 23, is on the for-sale list at Atletico Madrid.
