Angela Scanlon gives Strictly Come Dancing update

Irish broadcaster Angela Scanlon has made an “awkward” admission ahead of her Strictly Come Dancing debut.

The 39-year-old has been opening up to her followers on Instagram about taking part in Strictly.

She’s currently the early favourite to win the series alongside EastEnders’ Bobby Brazier, according to the bookies.

During a recent Q&A, Angela admitted she did not realise just how popular the BBC show was.

The TV star also admitted she is concerned about looking “awkward” on the ballroom floor.

Angela, who hosts Asks Me Anything, shared: “The joy! Honestly, I’m so overwhelmed by how kind people have been already.

“I didn’t quite realise just how loved the show is so to be a little part of that feels amazing.”

She added: “[I want to] properly push myself out of my comfort zone, I’m so damn awkward and clumsy.

Angela told her followers she’s most looking forward to her young children seeing her dance dressed as Princess Fiona from Shrek.

She will be competing against the likes of Angela Rippon, Nigel Harman, Les Dennis and Zara McDermott for the Glitterball Trophy.

Speaking on the Breakfast Show to stand in host Gaby Roslin, Angela shared: “I believe in feelings and timing and all of those sorts of things.

“I’m not particularly fit. I have no idea how my pelvic floor is going to react to that level of jumping.

“I’ve never done any of these dances in my life bar a drunken jive at a family wedding, so it certainly feels like there’s room to learn and really push myself.”

Could the flame-haired beauty go on to be crowned this year’s winner?

She is waiting to find out who she’ll be partnered up with on the series which returns on September 16.

Strictly Come Dancing will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from next month.
