BBC Strictly’s Angela Scanlon’s anger over BBC producer’s insulting remark

Angela Scanlon has recalled comments allegedly made towards her by a BBC producer after she began hosting Robot Wars in 2016.

The Strictly Come Dancing star, 39, fronted the hit BBC Two show with Dara O'Briain until 2018, but was left "furious" after inappropriate comments were allegedly made about her when she accepted the gig.

Angela opened up about fronting Robot Wars on Tiffanie Darke's podcast Fashion as a Force for Good, saying it was a "big gig" for her.

"It was Sunday night, eight o’clock, a big entertainment show and I had wild impostor syndrome. So I felt very nervous about the actual doing of the job," she admitted.

Angela alleges a BBC producer perceived her as the "glamour" despite her being "clear" about her "strengths and ability".

She claims she had a "sense" of what the producer thought about her and a friend called her to inform her that the producer had referred to her as the "t*ts and teeth" of Robot Wars.

Angela was left "absolutely furious", and she explained: "The next meeting I had with this person, there was a conversation less around the content – which in my mind was my job – and more around what are you thinking you’ll wear? I was like, 'That’s not important'."

The 39 year old added: "It felt so reductive and so presumptuous that I would have arrived with my lippy on and my legs out to entertain the lads, and that was my value. Absolutely not."

Angela went on to say she decided to make sure no skin was on show and she opted to wear a boiler suit to present Robot Wars.

When contacted by OK!, the BBC declined to comment on Angela's claims.

Angela is currently competing on Strictly Come Dancing with professional dancer Carlos Gu, and has continued to wow with her energetic performances and dancing ability so far on the BBC One show.

Following five eliminations – Zara McDermott, Les Dennis, Jody Cundy, Nikita Kanda and Eddie Kadi have all left the competition – and Amanda Abbington's decision to leave the show, there are just nine celebrities left on Strictly including Angela.

The TV presenter is now battling it out for the Glitterball trophy against Adam Thomas, Angela Rippon, Nigel Harman, Ellie Leach, Layton Williams, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Bobby Brazier and Annabel Croft.
