Bradley Walsh tells The Chase player ‘not to speak’ after blurting answer

Bradley Walsh is a national treasure thanks to his wit and warmth on the telly, and he was bringing this charisma by the bucketload to Tuesday's edition of The Chase.

The veteran broadcaster informed one player, named Pete, he wasn't "allowed to speak" during a tense play-off with brainiac Shaun Wallace.

Nervous Pete faced barrister Shaun in the second round, only for a tricky question about creepy crawlies to pop up.

It read: "What is the largest order of insects, representing about forty percent of all known insect species?"

Three answers were listed below – ants, beetles or flies.

Spinning a yarn, Bradley started joking about straight-laced Pete working as a "spy," and ordered him against speaking to him.

When Pete tried to deliver his answer to the question – ants – Brad quipped: "You're desperate to turn around to me and speak.

"You're not allowed to. You're a spy."

Pete started laughing, his nerves instantly vanishing and giving him the confidence to sail through to the final.
