BRITS will get the chance to watch the full British Soap Awards tonight after the annual event took place behind closed doors last week.

Famous faces from EastEnders, Corrie, Emmerdale and more gathered to battle it out to be named Britain's best soap.

And it was EastEnders who took home the biggest prize of the star-studded evening, winning the award for best soap.

The annual awards show faced controversy this year after regular host Phillip Schofield stood down to be replaced by Jane McDonald.

    Corrie wins big at the British Soap Awards

    Coronation Street was the big winner at this year's British Soap Awards scooping six prizes – but it failed to snatch the big gong.

    The ITV soap's hard-hitting acid attack storyline, actress Charlotte Jordan and Dame Maureen Lipman were all honoured at the glittering bash in Salford's Lowry Theatre.

    Dame Maureen was crowned Best Comedy Performer for her role as Evelyn Plummer.

    Cobbles' newcomer Channique Sterling-Brown also took home her own gong for Best Newcomer.

    Best Single Episode went to stalker Justin's dramatic acid attack on Daisy Midgeley and Ryan Connor, while Daisy actress Charlotte Jordan also took home the award for Best Dramatic Performance.

    The acid attack storyline also won again for Best Storyline.

    Coronation Street took home the award for Best Soap Family for The Platts

    But while Corrie took home a whopping six awards, it lost out on the coveted Best British Soap award to BBC rival EastEnders.

      Insiders have hailed Jane McDonald after she stepped in for Phillip Schofield to host the British Soap Awards.

      Jane was given a warm welcome by the soap stars from the likes of Emmerdale, EastEnders and Coronation Street, with an onlooker telling The Sun Online: “Jane is a natural at this.

      "It’s obvious she loves soaps and the audience loves her for it. She had fans in hysterics with her performance – even breaking into song during the down bits.

      "It was like she’s been doing it for years. The audience and soap stars absolutely loved her.”

      Jacqueline was in a fresh drama in 2019, when she appeared to have a bust up with hubby Dan Osborne at the National Television Awards (NTAs) after accusing him of flirting.

      A source told the Mirror the EastEnders actress burst into tears after finding Dan, 31, flirting with a group of women at the afterparty, telling him: "I want to go NOW."

      Dan was reportedly keen to stay, leading to a heated exchange between the couple, who have two girls – Ella, eight, and Mia, four.

      The source said: "It was awkward because everyone was having fun and they weren't hiding their fight from those around them.”

      Most controversial Soap Award moments: Backstage brawl

      Emmerdale star Asan N’Jie got into a fight with a rival soap actor at the 2019 TV Choice Awards, which ultimately cost him his job.

      Asan, 29, began taunting Hollyoaks’ hardman Jamie Lomas, aiming a “sarcastic jibe" at him.

      In a scene resembling a punch-up at The Woolpack, Jamie, 48, went for the Dales star and cast members had to pull them apart.

      Asan was allegedly heard threatening to knife Jamie, and a clip of the bust up shows him scream: “Do you think you are a f*****g big man? I’m going to f*****g kill you."

      He was thrown out of the bash and sacked from his role as Ellis in the show over the scuffle.
