Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty's love story revealed after he wooed This Morning star with very romantic gesture | The Sun

PRESENTER Cat Deeley told how husband Patrick Kielty wooed her by flying all the way from Ireland to LA — just for a brunch.

The new This Morning guest presenter Cat, 47, said the gesture "knocked my socks off" after comedian Patrick, 52, decided to step up their long-term friendship and make a romantic move.

Cat, who has been married to Patrick since 2012, said: "It was my birthday and he’d rung me, he was at a pub in Ireland and he’d rung me from the pub.

"Bear in mind it was probably about 2 o’clock in the morning because they’d had a lock-in."

Cat told him she was having a birthday brunch at Beverly Hills Hotel, to which he said: "I’ll see you there!"

She continued: "He went home, set his alarm for five, got up, went to the airport, flew from Belfast to London, then jumped on the first plane from London to LA, got in a cab, told the cabbie on his way from the airport what he was doing, and the driver was literally like 'do you want me to wait for you?!'"

Cat and Patrick met in 2002 whilst they hosted BBC talent show Fame Academy – but sparks didn't fly between the couple until 10 years later.

Following a whirlwind romance, the couple married in a private ceremony in Rome on September 30, 2012 – and have welcomed two sons.

The pair went public with their romance when they walked the red carpet together for Glamour's Women of the Year awards in 2011.

In an interview on This Morning, Patrick revealed he had "no regrets" about taking so long to romance Cat.

Speaking to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford he said things happened exactly as they should: "If we had got together at the start, we could have got on one another’s nerves. All things came at the right time."

The Sun revealed Cat’s new gig last week having been teamed up with Rylan Clark to host This Morning.

The presenter received rave reviews about her return to frontline presenting, having spent a lot of time back in America and raising her kids.

In 2020, Cat said that she moved back to the UK from California after a "terrifying" mall shooting left Patrick and their son "shaken".

In an interview with You magazine, Cat said Patrick and Milo, 4, were shopping in the Century City Mall in Los Angeles when FBI agents announced there was a shooter on the loose.

She said: "I got a call from Paddy, saying, 'They’re taking us out through the fire exits but nobody can get to their car. If we walk to a junction, can you come and get us?'

"He wanted to keep Milo calm, so I didn’t understand the enormity of what was happening. As I was driving I began to see helicopters, news vans, firemen and SWAT [armed police response] squads.

"It makes me go funny now. It was terrifying… Paddy was shaken by it, more than Milo, who was hot and cranky but didn’t properly understand."

Cat feels happy to be home after swapping her mansion in Los Angeles for a flat in north London back in 2020.
