Coronation Street’s Carla Barlow (Alison King) will be forced to “choose between two great loves” this Christmas as her marriage to doting husband Peter breaks down.
Over the past few months, the happy couple have been going through their fair share of obstacles after the ITV hunk (played by Chris Gascoyne) ran over cobbles killer Stephen Reid back in October. It’s fair to say the doting dad is struggling to come to terms with what he did, and his mental decline is having a negative effect on their relationship.
In upcoming scenes, fans will see the pair fall apart when Peter asks Carla to leave Weatherfield with him and live on a boat for a year. Now, the 50-year-old soap star has lifted the lid on the difficult choice Carla will have to make.

Speaking to Daily Star and other press, the actress admitted that her character will be forced to pick between her “two great loves”: Peter and the factory. She told us: “I think she will have to choose.
“Going and living on a boat sounds wonderful and free but that’s not for her. That’s not how she sees her life, but it is what he wants to do.
“She knows that there could well be a chance that he could do that for a year like he has in the past. But she has got to look at the bigger picture, it would mean potentially throwing everything away for her to go and do that.”
Alison went on: “If she went and came back, what would be left for her here? He has his family and roots here, they would still be here, but the business would be gone and she would have nothing left.
“She will obviously be thinking she has to kind of make the decision and carry on with her life as normal. It’s that old saying isn’t it, if you love someone you should let them go. And that’s really for both of them.”
The actress went on to reveal what it was like to play those emotional scenes ahead of his Christmas exit. She recalled: “We were filming solidly together for two days. There was a lot to learn.
“But aside from that it was amazing, but it was so emotional, I did not need any tearstick for those scenes. There was no way of knowing what would happen and every time we did it I literally filled up with emotion and started crying at different times in every scene.”
The telly favourite added: “Just seeing a different look from Chris would set me off because he’s so wonderful at reacting. That’s why I've loved working with him so much, it’s always about the reaction.

Despite the heartbreaking ending, producers have reassured viewers Carla won’t be able to wallow in her heartbreak for too long. Newcomer Jack Carroll is set to light up the street with his bubbly personality and cheeky attuited who will turn her world upside down when he arrives in Weatherfield.
