The remaining 10 celebrity contestants took to the ice to try and impress the judges and audience in the most recent episode of Dancing on Ice. With the show already plagued with sickness and injury, fan favourite Connor Ball pulled off a strong performance while suffering from a head injury, which resulted in blood “going everywhere” shortly after he finished his routine.

TV presenter Ria Hebden left the show after failing to impress the audience at the end of January; the remaining hopefuls didn’t want to follow suit, with the final 10 pulling out all the stops.

So much so that The Vamps’ singer shocked fans as he smiled even though blood was dripping onto his shirt by the end of his performance.

Unbeknownst to concerned viewers, the 25-year-old had opened up stitches on his face that he received just moments before performing.

While waiting for his results, temporary host Stephen Mulhern tried to put viewers at ease.

Members of the crew were seen darting across camera to help Connor’s injury, with Holly even reaching for a tissue and saying: “Oh goodness me.”

Even the show’s technicians were distracted by the drama as Jane’s “8.5” score appeared as a 9.5 on the screen, with Stephen clarifying the error.

Stephen said: “Just to point out. I don’t know if you can see this, obviously, Dancing on Ice is completely live, and Connor was meant to open the entire show but had an accident backstage.

“He had stitches before the show. So he couldn’t go on first, and they’ve now opened up.

“Mate, first of all, I don’t know how you still performed. It must be going through your mind; what happened backstage?”

Reflecting on how he overcame the odds to perform still, the studio audience and skaters all burst into a massive round of applause and shared cheers of encouragement.

He quickly kept the pressure on his chin to try and avoid getting any more blood on his white shirt, two-piece waistcoat, and trouser tweed combination.

On his accident, Connor said: “I was a bit stressed about the spin, so I kept trying to perfect the spin, and I just slipped out and smacked my face off the ice.”

The stand-in host mentioned that paramedics were on “standby” to assist and pointed out that the blood was “dripping on your shirt”.

Make light of the situation; the singer added: “It’s going everywhere.”

Scoring an impressive 33 out of 40, fan Sara Frost was more concerned about the star’s health than his place on the leaderboard, tweeting: “Don’t keep Connor talking on Dancing on Ice. Let him go and get his stitches sorted by the paramedics!”

@bunnybeebumble also spotted the same thing, adding: “They couldn’t have hurried up with their comments??? why did they make Connor stand there that long, clearly in pain and bleeding everywhere while they rambled on!! #doi #DancingOnIce.”

“WHY TF DID THEY MAKE CONNOR STAND THERE SO LONG WHILST HE WAS BLEEDING?! SERIOUSLY WTF #DOI #DancingOnIce,” @tiny_bassist used all caps to show her worry for Connor. (sic)

Despite being injured, Connor was safe from the skate-off with S Club 7 star Rachel Stevens voted off after going against Olympian Kye Whyte.

Regular co-host Phillip Schofield was off due to contracting covid with him presumed to be returning for the next show.

Dancing on Ice airs Sundays at 6pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
