Death in Paradise is filled to the brim with murder investigations, romances and from time to time, unexpected family coming out of the woodwork. BBC fans will remember back in season seven when Dwayne Myers (played by Danny John-Jules) was reunited with his long-lost dad Nelson Myers (Ram John Holder). Now it’s Commissioner Selwyn Patterson’s (Don Warrington) time to have his own family reunion.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Death in Paradise.

In season 11, the Commissioner came across his ex-wife Maggie Harper (Orla Brady) again after many years during an investigation.

She eventually admitted he was the father of her now grown-up daughter Andrina (Genesis Lynea) who he never told her about.

Andrina is now eager to find out more about her roots, which includes meeting her father for the first time.

But how is the Commissioner going to react when he finally meets his daughter in person?

The Commissioner’s daughter Andrina is being portrayed by actress Genesis Lynea.

Medical drama fans will best recognise her as Archie Hudson in BBC series Casualty in 2019.

She went on to feature in Shadow and Bone, A Discovery of Witches, The Baby and Silent Witness as Dr Simone Tyler.

Lynea has also had a successful stage career, having originated the role of Anne of Cleves in the musical Six.

Is the Death in Paradise Andrina actress Genesis Lynea dating?

Actress Genesis Lynea, who identifies as queer, is currently single but was previously dating musical star Aimie Atkinson.

The pair first met in 2017 when they were performing together in Six, with Atkinson portraying Katherine Howard.

They stayed together for a few years before going their separate ways in 2020.

Atkinson has since gone on to star in the West End show Pretty Woman alongside former Hollyoaks actor Danny Mac.

When Lynea started appearing in BBC drama Casualty, she opened up to Gay Times about the importance of representation on the small screen.

She said: “I think if I was younger and saw a queer woman of colour on BBC primetime playing a doctor, that would have been memorable for me.

“In fact when I was younger, I think I wasn’t even aware of my sexuality or even the absence of women of colour on screen – blissfully unaware, I guess.

“I think young and queer people are very open, educated and aware of their surroundings and the portrayal of LGBTQ people in the media.

“It makes me have so much faith in the future generations to take ownership over their identities and be proud of who they are.”

Lynea will appear in Death in Paradise for the first time in season 12, episode 5, which airs on Friday, February 3.

The synopsis reads: “The team investigates the murder of a former children’s home resident.

“Meanwhile, Marlon sits his sergeant’s exams, and Selwyn meets his daughter for the first time.”

Death in Paradise continues every Friday at 9pm on BBC One.
