EastEnders: Heather Peace discusses her character Eve

Eve (played by Heather Peace) will make her debut in Friday night’s episode of EastEnders as she will be introduced to viewers as Stacey Slater’s (Lacey Turner) wife. Very little is known about the newcomer to the BBC soap or what her motives are for marrying a beloved Walford resident but she could demonstrate a real protectiveness over her spouse. Recently, Suki (Balvinder Sopal) hasn’t been too pleasant to Jean Slater’s (Gillian Wright) daughter following her return from prison and so Eve could intervene to ensure her spouse doesn’t have to worry about her nemesis anymore.
Before Stacey revealed to Jean she had got married in prison during Thursday night’s episode, Suki burst into the Slater household to demand answers.
Knowing the clan had broken into her house to use the hot water as she refused to fix their boiler, despite being their landlord, Suki issued them with an eviction notice.
The ruthless businesswoman believes someone stole her late son’s watch and has therefore accused Stacey of stealing from her.
Enter Eve, who is likely to learn of what her new family have been put through and will want to ensure they keep the roof over their head.
For some unknown reason, the newcomer was serving time behind bars and the actress who plays her, Heather, has promised her alter-ego isn’t the person she appears to be at face value.
Appearing on Friday’s edition of BBC Breakfast, Heather spoke in a bit more depth about her character and what she will get up to.
The actress said: “She’s super bright, she’s super witty and I get given some great one-liners which is an absolute joy.
“But there is a darker side. There’s a switch and she cannot help but get herself into trouble. I guess she’s not afraid of anyone.
“Which is not always a good thing, especially when they are a lot bigger than you. So she’s a bit of a live wire.”
Although she did not explicitly state her character would be going up against Suki, whilst Heather was talking, pictures were shown of Eve with Stacey and Suki.
But there is a darker side

Eve would be wanting to prove herself to the Slater family, especially as she knows Jean isn’t her number one fan.
To get the rest of the infamous clan on side, she could use her nasty streak to issue a threat towards Suki which would leave her quaking in her boots.
During her time on the show, Suki has shown no restraint against anyone and has always been quite bitter towards her fellow Walford residents.
However, there might be something about the newcomer which unnerves her and as a result, she could think her life is in danger.
Not wanting to stick around and find out if Eve is bluffing or not, she could make a very hasty exit from the Square.
One of the conditions she would have to follow through with is to give the Slaters house back to them or risk the danger of being hurt.
Forced out of her own home, the Panesar matriarch might finally be brought down to size and she could realise she doesn’t have the influence over people Eve seems to have.
Whether or not she would make a return in the future would all be dependent on whether Eve settles into life on the Square or if she makes an exit in the coming months.
Viewers still have a lot to learn about the newcomer as they are unaware of her backstory or what makes her tick necessarily.
It is yet to be seen whether she does have a relationship or if this could all be a bluff with Stacey to help them both upon their release from jail.
Speaking about joining the character of Eve and Heather joining the cast, Head of Continuing Drama at the BBC, Kate Oates said: “I’m delighted to see Lacey Turner return to the Square as Stacey.
“Stacey has made a new friend in prison, and will shortly be joined by Eve – her cellmate inside, and her new best friend on the outside.
“But where Eve goes, chaos follows. There’s a reason Eve’s sentence kept getting extended when she’d initially been imprisoned for a short stint.
“She simply can’t keep out of trouble. But with Stacey out on probation, Jean is determined that Eve will not lead her daughter into bad ways.
“But just how extreme is Jean prepared to go to keep Stacey on the straight and narrow?”
Executive producer Jon Sen added: “We’re really excited about [Eve].
“You know how that kind of friendship is going to be because they come back having shared a prison experience that has united them in a kind of very unique friendship, so that’s really exciting.”
Sharing her excitement about the role on Twitter, Heather posted: “Well, here we go. I can tell you now.
“Thrilled to have joined the cast of @bbceastenders Loving my new job and everyone has been lovely to me.
“So that’s just perfect,” she added on the social media platform and it seems her character is going to be sticking around for a while to come.
