Emmerdale star spends ‘a lot of time out of work’ and loves being on set

One Emmerdale star has confirmed he spends "a lot of time out of work" pursuing his acting dreams.

Newcomer Will Ash will play Cain Dingle's brother Caleb in the ITV soap – and has hinted that Caleb could be out for "revenge" to get back at his brother.

Cain told Caleb when they were just teenagers that their mum Faith was dead, and it's only now that he knows he was lied to and returns to the Dales to face Cain.

But will the pair be able to strike up a relationship, or are they doomed already?

As for Will, he's loving being on set, and praised Emmerdale scriptwriters for their work on his character – as he confessed he's had a hard time in the industry.

Speaking to Daily Star and other press, he confessed: "Not to put anything down, but it's work, isn't it? It's nice to be working.

"You spend a lot of time, as an actor, out of work, and the opportunity to be doing what I like doing every single day is amazing, it’s really good. But the main thing is working with Jeff [Hordley] and the character, because the scripts have been amazing."

Will and Jeff have known each other a long time, and their partnership dates back to their school days.

Jeff explained: "We both went to the same school, North Chadderton Comprehensive in Oldham and had a really inspirational drama teacher called Colin Snell who not only inspired us but the likes of Nicola Stephenson and then went on to another school with Jonas Armstrong and Jenna Coleman."

He and Will appeared in the play Another Country while at school together, with Jeff, who was a sixth former at the time, in an acting role while Will was the "kid giving us tea and stuff".

Will told us: "For me when I was that age, coming in and seeing all these lads in a play taking acting really seriously, I've never seen that before and it was one of the reasons I ended up going professional. It was quite inspiring."

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7:30pm on ITV1.
