Emmerdale’s Dawn actress shares costume secrets behind wedding day stunt scene

Emmerdale actress Olivia Bromley has revealed the secrets behind her action-packed wedding day and hinted at some of the stunts on the show.

Olivia’s character Dawn Taylor is set to marry Billy Fletcher, played by Jay Kontzle, on the soap next week, but it turns into a living nightmare when the Dales’ serial killer, Meena Jutla returns.

The Mirror has reported that the killer kidnaps the couple on their big day and tortures them, before Billy has to decide whether Dawn or himself should get shot.

In an interview with The Mirror, Olivia hinted at the extent of the explosive stunts as she had several wardrobe malfunctions and had to wear a harness underneath her wedding dress.

She explained: "I have to wear a harness underneath my wedding dress – that's unbelievably uncomfortable. Not only to breathe in but to move in.

"And to be in a wedding dress in January on a viaduct wasn't one of the most comfortable filming experiences, basically.

"But we've had a lot of fun, haven't we, Jay? It's been a good laugh. I'm quite excited for the next [few weeks].

"We just have a good time when we're filming a story like this. Even when it's really high drama, it's a perfect soap story.

"Every actor wants to do this kind of thing and the three of us have had a good time."

Her co-star and on-screen fiancé Jay added: "My harness, they tried keeping it on me because they're holding you and say, 'Leave it on, Jay.' Because it's literally like a dog collar.

"I was like, it's not even that far down! But they wouldn't take it off. I think I even went to lunch with it on!"

The star admitted that he finds Paige Sandhu “frightening” in her role as Meena, as the character has already kidnapped and killed several people on the soap including her own sister, Manpreet.

Jay continued: “She gets herself into that character and it's quite inspiring to watch and watch her develop into Meena because she carries the character so well and it's the complete opposite to how she actually is.

"She's not that type of person one bit, she smashes the role and it's very interesting to see her do it. You do actually feel scared of her. You do actually have that fear inside that she's actually quite frightening.”
