Good Morning Britain star Alex Beresford quits ITV West Country after 17 years

Good Morning Britain presenter Alex Beresford has quit his regular role on the programme ITV West Country as he gears up to try something new.

The TV star has been a weatherman on the show for an incredible 17 years.

But after moving his way up the ranks, Alex has left the regional section behind in favour of a position with the national news team.

Giving an emotional statement about his departure, the longtime GMB host reflected on a "special part" of his life and how much he'll "miss" the job and all the people in it.

He also thanked all the viewers who tuned in during the pandemic, as he recalled how tough it had been to get the show on-air every day.

"It's been over a decade since I've been working across the region and it's been the most amazing time," Alex shared. "It's been a special part of my life and I'm going to miss it.

"I'm a Bristol boy through and through. The West Country is an amazing place to work," the TV star continued.

"I'd never been to Cornwall before I started working at ITV West Country and I got to explore one of the best parts of the world in my opinion," Alex went on.

"It's been special, especially over the last couple of years.

"There have been restrictions but we made it to air every night and it's testament to the hard work here."

Dedicating the end of his statement to the fans and acknowledging the people who have watched him grow up on TV, the weather reporter added: "Thank you so much to everyone who has been watching at home over the years, watching me growing up on TV.

"I've only ever had one job and this has been it."

Alex's former colleagues and friends also shared their support for his move.

Former weather presenter at ITV West Country Bob Crampton shared: "He gets on with people you meet in the street and gets on with people when you're outside doing a live.

"Good luck Alex, I know you're going to do particularly well," he added.
