TV chef Gordon Ramsay is taking part in one of his most personal challenges yet as he’s facing off against daughter Tilly and two chefs who started their journey in his kitchen. Matt Waldron, who used to work with the celebrity chef, spoke to Express.co.uk about reuniting with Gordon once again.
Gordon Ramsay Uncharted Showdown will see the 56–year-old put his skills to the test as he’s challenged to cook up a storm with only local produce.
However, for that added bit of extra pressure, he’ll be going head-to-head with UK star Chefs Paul Ainsworth and Matt Waldron who he once taught before they opened up their own restaurants.
To prevent his students from becoming the masters, Gordon has to try and impress the locals in the final cook with the ingredients he’s collected throughout the episode.
Matt, who runs Stackpole Inn in Wales, spoke to Express.co.uk on how it felt going against his former mentor after all these years.
He confessed: “I was apprehensive at first! He’s a major player, he’s a massive name in this industry.
“Yeah I was quite apprehensive at first, but then when it sort of came down to it, you obviously want to impress and show how far you’ve come over the years since I worked for him last.
“I suppose the nervousness died down and you got on with it really!”
Although Gordon is used to being filmed cooking in his shows such as Hells Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares and Next Level Chef, this was the first time Matt has experienced something similar.
Speaking on what it was like being on camera for the first time, he confessed it was all new to him.
He commented: “It was exciting and nervous at the same time being able to work with Gordon and National Geographic in this way.
“I was nervous about the task at hand, obviously I’ve never seen so many cameras around and all this film crew stuff, yeah it was quite daunting!
“But the overall experience was amazing, it was an incredible experience.”
Matt added his episode in the three-part series is about showcasing Wales and all the produce, suppliers and beautiful scenery the country has to offer.
In the instalment, which is titled Wales Tales, viewers will see Gordon fish from a teacup-sized boat, discover local cheese that’s been aged in a mine and see him suspended from a helicopter as he flies through the countryside.
After harvesting their ingredients, Matt and Gordon had to cook for all of the suppliers they had met throughout the episode,who were the judges of each course and decided the overall winner.
In the next episode, viewers will see the 56-year-old cook against his daughter Tilly as the duo head off to Costa Rica to see which Ramsay ends up on top.
A synopsis for the episode reads: “Gordon Ramsay sends his daughter Tilly and three of her friends on a mission to unlock the secrets of Costa Rican cuisine.
“The intrepid teens brave snakes and bullet ants while foraging in the jungle, head out into stormy seas for fresh seafood, and discover the secrets of sacred chocolate with the indigenous BriBri people.
“At the end of the week, Tilly takes all that she’s learned and squares off against her dad in a tropical cook-off.”
