I’m A Celebrity comeback fears following star’s ‘scariest’ jungle trial experience

Fatima Whitbread has shared her I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! comeback fears ahead of the new All Star series.

Retired javelin thrower Fatima first starred on the popular ITV show in 2011, and went on to come in third place behind TOWIE’s Mark Wright and McFly star Dougie Poynter – who was crowned King of the Jungle.

Now, as Fatima prepares for her second stint in the jungle in the hopes of being crowned the first ever ‘I’m A Celebrity Legend’, she has voiced her concerns about reliving the extremely scary experience of when a cockroach got lodged in her nose during a trial.

Medic Bob ended up being called in to remove the insect from Fatima’s nose.

“People still come up and chat about the cockroach,” Fatima revealed to OK!. “And every time I’m A Celebrity comes out, the cockroach incident gets aired quite a bit! Most children remember me for the cockroach and their parents remember me for throwing a javelin!

“Doing that trial in Australia was easily my scariest trial but I had a lot of fun taking part in the series and it’s wonderful to be asked back again.”

Even though she had her horror experience with the cockroach, she is still open to doing a similar trial once again.

“It does concern me if that happens again,” she said. “Mind you, I have got quite large nostrils. They fit my face alright and if any critter wants to come in, then it is quite an easy gap for them to get through!”

Despite the scary ordeal, Fatima actually kept the cockroach that became lodged in her nose and had it waxed so she could have it as a keepsake.

Elsewhere Fatima shared her personal connection to South Africa – where the All Star series was filmed.

The show, which is usually live, is typically filmed in Australia. Two series were filmed in Wales, however, when the pandemic made it difficult for people to travel.

“My son was born in South Africa,” Fatima revealed. “My late husband worked there for ten years and it is a country close to my heart. I am looking forward to going back.”

She went on: “All my family are so excited that I am taking part in this new series and I am a great supporter of Ant & Dec. They are two funny characters who always have you cracking up. I am sure they are going to make some jokes about cockroaches and it will be nice to see them again. I’ve not seen them since I was last on I’m A Celebrity."

I'm A Celebrity… South Africa starts Monday 24th April at 21.00 on ITV1 & ITVX.
