Judge Rinder’s life – Susanna Reid bond, Hollywood wedding link and tragic loss

Judge Rob Rinder has become one of television's most recognisable faces, after rising to fame with his popular ITV programme Judge Rinder.

Alongside his television work, he is also a practising barrister, but that hasn't stopped him from making some memorable guest appearances on programmes including Room 101, Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Strictly Come Dancing.

He has even taken a foray into presenting, after making his debut as a Good Morning Britain host in November 2021.

In his personal life though, the Judge's life is just as interesting, including friendships with a huge Hollywood a-Lister and going on holiday with co-host Susanna Reid.

Tragic loss

Judge Rinder told fans earlier this month that his beloved pet Rocco had passed away, sharing the news with a poignant post on Instagram.

Posting a gallery of sweet snaps of the dog, he wrote: "My Rocco died suddenly yesterday. He blessed me with a lifetime of loyalty & limitless joy. I don’t speak about my private world normally.

"But wanted to share my profound sadness with anybody who has ever loved a dog. It is the deepest gift of unconditional love imaginable."

His friends and co-stars quickly took to the post to share their condolences, with Ruth Langsford writing: "Oh Rob….I am so, so sorry. Grief is the price we pay for that unconditional love. Sending you the tightest hug ever.."

Holly Willoughby added: "Oh I am so sorry."

Rinder later got emotional on Good Morning Britain as he spoke about losing his pet, with his co-star Susanna Reid offering him comfort during the segment.

A famous Hollywood actor officiated his wedding

Judge Rob Rinder is a huge star in his own right, and has even revealed that he trained as an actor with the National Youth Theatre.

However, many might not know that he is close friends with another huge Hollywood A-list actor, who also officiated his wedding.

Sherlock and The Hobbit star Benedict Cumberbatch officiated Judge Rinder's marriage to now ex-husband Seth Cumming in 2013, but the couple later divorced in 2018.

Judge Rinder and Benedict Cumberbatch met and became good friends while at University, with the Judge even admitting that he gave up a career in acting after seeing how talented Benedict was.

He told Radio Times: "I thought I’d done well, then I saw him deliver exactly the same lines and it was so different.

"He had a fizz, a chemistry and an understanding of the text that you just knew was what the writer wanted it to sound like."

In 2015, Judge Rinder was also one of three best men when Benedict Cumberbatch married his wife, Sophie Hunter.

Susanna Reid bond

Judge Rinder made his debut as a host on Good Morning Britain back in November, alongside resident presenter Susanna Reid.

However, the two have been friends for over six years and aside from their appearances on Celebrity Gogglebox, they have revealed that they regularly go on holiday together – although they keep the locations a secret until they have returned home.

Speaking to Closer magazine about their friendship, Judge Rinder said: "I love to go away with Susanna once a year. We have more plans to go away, but I won’t say where."

Susanna also spoke about their holidays to You magazine, saying: "Oh, we let our hair down!

"That’s my four days in the year when I have no responsibilities."

Apart from Susanna, Judge Rinder has also revealed that one of his oldest friends is the singer Rachel Stevens, as the two went to the same primary school in London.

Tragic loss

Judge Rinder paid an emotional tribute to his grandmother in November 2021, after she died at the age of 97.

Speaking on daytime programme Loose Women, the Judge explained that his family was full of strong, amazing women such as his mum and grandmother, saying: "I had unconditional love in absolute bucketfuls and belief.

"Women who were proud of my achievements but above all thought that it mattered most that I was was kind – and they taught me how to hear and to listen."

He then continued to talk about his inspirational grandmother, following her death a few days before his appearance on Loose Women.

"The centre of that was my grandma who died at the weekend. She was 97," said the Judge.

"So she was the kind of spiritual and emotional epicentre of our family."

He added: "To think she's not with us leaves us empty but to have had her fills us with joy."

Huge net worth

Since Judge Rinder's ITV programme launched in 2014, fans haven't been able to get enough of the Judge, both in the courtroom and outside of it.

Along with his hit show, the star has also made various appearances on series including GMB, Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire, The Great British Bake Off, Strictly Come Dancing and Gogglebox.

It's no surprise then that from all his television appearances, the Judge has a huge estimated net worth of over $4 million (£2.9 million).

Strictly Come Dancing stint

In 2016, Judge Rinder showed us his talents outside of the courtroom when he participated in Strictly Come Dancing with professional dance partner Oksana Platero.

Talking about his decision to appear on Strictly, Judge Rinder told the BBC that wanted to participate as his grandparents were huge fans of the programme: "I’m a private secret dancer and I love to dance.

"The main reason is as my grandparents get older it’s a show they absolutely love.

"Although they’ve always been unconditionally proud of me, I think there is something magical about being able to take part in something which gives them such joy and escapism."

His dancing feet certainly got him far too, with the pair making it all the way to week 11, before being eliminated after performing a Samba to Oh what a night! from Jersey Boys.
