Kate Garraway nearly makes Ben Shephard ‘fall off’ his chair with odd request

GMB: Kate Garraway jokes about ordering smoked mackerel

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway nearly made her ITV colleague Ben Shephard fall off his chair after making an unusual request.

On Friday morning, the duo were bringing viewers the latest headlines and weather forecast by Laura Tobin.

As Laura was telling people to expect more chilly weather across the weekend, Kate and Ben seemed to be engrossed in their own conversation.

When she wrapped up her forecast, the camera cut back to Kate and Ben as the 56-year-old was caught muttering something to her co-star.

Realising they had been interrupted, Kate apologised to viewers before divulging what they had been speaking about.

Laughing, she said: “Richard Arnold is down under with the latest, we’ve just been talking about breakfast.

“I thought we were ordering it for another day and I’ve just ordered smoked mackerel to the studio! Ben nearly fell off his chair.”

Commenting on the interesting food choice so early in the morning, Charlotte Hawkins quipped: “Ben’s going to love that one, enjoy that smoked mackerel.”

As Kate and Charlotte continued to laugh about the fish that would soon be arriving, Ben tried to quickly move the subject along.

He commented: “I’m more interested in what Richard’s got going on down under. Richard, save me from these strange ladies!”

However, this doesn’t appear to be the first time Ben’s been left aghast over Kate’s choice of food.

Speaking to The Mirror at the Pride of Britain this year, the 48-year-old revealed one of Kate’s smelly food rituals.

He confessed: “When Kate’s on she gets eggs that smell really bad first thing in the morning as well! Kate and her eggs, you can imagine it can’t you?”

As the ITV show airs so early in the morning, many of the presenters eat their breakfasts in the studio between segments.

However, some have been caught out tucking into their food on air as Susanna Reid has had to quickly dispose of her plate in the past.

In September, the show returned from an ad break to reveal the host enjoying some grub as Richard Madeley decided to take a cheeky jibe at her.

He told viewers: “She’s having her breakfast! Bear with her, bear with her.”

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
