With just one episode left in the current series of Line of Duty, former star Craig Parkinson has shared his fears that Ted Hastings could leave the show for good.
Speaking on his Obsessed With… Line of Duty podcast on BBC Sounds, Craig, who starred as DI Cottan up until series three, and his guest, author Elizabeth Day, discussed their predictions for the hotly-anticipated series finale.
And whilst discussing Hastings, played by Adrian Dunbar, they both agreed that he isn’t in a strong position, with top officers trying to force him into early retirement.
Reflecting on the sad scenes viewers previously saw, of Ted at the end of his tether and being pushed out, Craig said he’s now worried this could be the beginning of the end for the fan favourite.
He explained: “They were signposting us that somebody is going to go and at first we thought Steve with his drink and drugs problem.”
“I was never worried about Kate but I think what [showrunner Jed Mercurio] was very mischievously trying to do was signpost that it could be Steve,” Craig continued.
“But now, after this episode, with those images of what Ted’s been reduced to, and physically and mentally where he is, yes, I do believe he’s going to exit the show.”
However, Craig says his former co-star would need an epic ending, adding: “He deserves nothing but a hero’s exit.”
This comes after Craig exclusively opened up to OK about his lasting friendship with his former co-stars, including Adrian, Vicky McClure and Martin Compston.
The actor, who’s current project is Sky drama Intergalactic, told us: “Prior to season one of Line of Duty, myself and Martin had done two or three inde pendent films together, so we were firm friends.”
“And everybody’s just like a family. I still speak to Lennie James, I was on the phone to Neil Morrissey two days ago. We’re all still there.”
However Craig added that despite their close bond, he’s still in the dark as to what will happen in this weekend’s final.
“If I wanted to know [spoilers], would they tell me? Probably not," he explained.
“But I don’t want to know, I want to go on the ride with everyone else. Season six has been very exciting.”
Line of Duty continues on Sunday night at 9pm on BBC One
