    2000 GUINEAS DAY – A RECAP

Favourite backers and Godolphin supporters were off to the dream start when Creative Force won the 1.15 by a length.

It was a big win for apprentice William Carver in the next as he rode Andrew Balding's Bell Rock to an impressive win by over two lengths.

Back to the Charlie Appleby and Buick combination in the 2.25 as Lazuli got favourite backers back on track.

Sir Ron Priestley made every yard of the running in the 3.00 for Mark Johnston and Franny Norton to a comfortable win over Pyledriver.

Then the big one. Wembley and Thunder Moon were the favourites earlier in the day before Battleground was smashes in from a big price to go off 9/2F.

Wembley = 11th, Battleground = 13th and Thunder Moon =LAST of 14 and were nowhere near it.

Master Of The Seas was backed in too and lost out in a photo finish to 16/1 shot Poetic Flare for Kevin Manning and Jim Bolger.

Chil Chil took the next for De Sousa and another for Andrew Balding.

Mohaafeth was the eyecatcher of the day, cantering to victory over some good sorts in the Listed Race.

Before Crossford for Ryan Moore and Charlie Hills took the finale.

    All eyes on day two!

    CROSSFORD WINS THE 5.25

Another good performance to wind up day one as Crossford wins by a cosy few lengths.

Drifted beforehand and there was concern this showing was too soon after his last performance but it's been a worthwhile trip to say the least.

    FINAL FURLONG

Still four in with a chance as they are spread across the track.

Ryan Moore gets Crossford to a slender lead.

Magical Land still saying on and Longlai won't go away.

Crossford pulls out a little bit more in the shadows of the post.

And Ryan Moore and CROSSFORD take the final race on the day.

At the post then for the finale.

William Buick and Charlie Appleby had high hopes for a special afternoon.

It is two wins for them so far, can they make it three on the favourite?

    FALCON HAS FLOWN

Forest Falcon seeing late support to join Crossford as second favourite for this.

Mark Johnston and Franny Narton aiming for a double on the card after Sir Ron Priestley's earlier triumph.

    CROSS CHANCE

Crossford was second over course and distance just over two weeks ago.

But Ryan Moore is wary of him being turned out so quickly after that.

He clearly ran into one in the improver Bullace at Newmarket on his return, and he clearly shaped well for me there in second. A 3lb rise for a comprehensive defeat seems a little harsh, but he is a horse going the right way, with conditions to suit, so he obviously has a fair shout once again. Whether he would want it this quick, I am not so sure, but I liked him.

Just the one race to go then on Guineas Saturday.

It looks a competitive betting heat too, maybe we won't get the same cruising winner as we have just seen.

Good effort at this level here last time and longer trip will suit.

    MOORE HOPEFUL

Ryan Mooreknows he is up against it, despite it being just the four runners.

He also was impressed with Inigo Jones' win at Chelmsford.

I think you had to be pretty impressed by Inigo Jones' Chelmsford win, especially with the winner going one better in admittedly an easy race at Ripon next time. He was given a mark of 94 after that, which will need to underplay his talents if he is to be winning this Listed race, but his half-brother to one of ours, Gabr, won in this grade and hopefully he is a colt going places. He is going well. This will tell us a lot more though, and I suspect Mohaafeth could be hard to beat after his win here recently. Secret Protector is the form horse going into the race, though. This is a good race.
