Love Island fans were left baffled on Sunday night as Jacques O’Neill fought in vain to win back the heart of Paige Thorne who was still reeling from the revelations of Casa Amor.
After it had emerged he had gotten close to Cheyanne during Paige’s time away, the 24 year old paramedic called time on their relationship and admitted she wasn’t ready to forgive him for the betrayal.
After both publicly arguing and privately having a heart to heart, Paige still continued to reject Jacques attempts to reconcile, leading him to take a more unconventional approach as he appeared to pen her a lengthy message on his phone.
Fans at home immediately jumped on social media to share their thoughts on the text, with many tickled by the lengths he was going to in order to apologise for his actions.
“Babe, are you writing an essay?” Wrote one fan.
While another chimed in with several laughing emojis and the words: “Not Jacques writing a full on essay in his notes.”
A third also chimed in as they commented: "Jacques is annoying me so much. Look at this essay he has typed.”
While a fourth cheekily commented: “Jacques has been preparing that essay for Paige for the past 2 days".
Several other fans thought it was ironic how quickly his attitude has changed, as he had previously told Paige he wouldn’t let her forgive him.
“Jacques went from 'I won’t let her forgive me' to writing a whole essay trying to earn her forgiveness just like that,” wrote one fan.
While another added: "I just know Paige is going to be so impressed with kitchen roll in her bed and 5k word essay on notes app”.
Before a third commented: “If Jacques was really speaking from the heart, he wouldn't need his phone and an essay proof read by Dami.”
Discussing the message later in the episode, Jacques himself joked it was like “writing a novel” as he opened up to villa pals about his efforts to try and win back Paige.
He said: "At the end of the day, I’m the one that f**ked up so I have to listen. So I thought if I can’t speak to her, I need to do something little cute, so hopefully that meant something to her.”
Alongside the long winded message, he also gave her a ‘love note’ formed from a piece of kitchen roll with a message etched in lipstick to let her know she was in his thoughts.
“The smile on her face means a lot to me, y’know?” concluded Jacques, before deciding he was going to put his efforts briefly on hold to enjoy a day with the lads.
