After a successful run in Australia, the bold social experiment made its way to British screens on E4 and became an instant hit. Returning for its sixth season, Married At First Sight contestant Megan Wolfe finally told her mother she was getting married to a stranger and unsurprisingly she didn’t take it well.

With the help of experts, 16 individuals were matched with other contestants in a social experiment to find love.

Unlike other conventional dating shows, this series requires the couple to meet for the first time at the altar.

The only difference between the UK and the Australian version is the marriage, here the couples won’t be forced into a legally binding marriage.

A spokesperson for the show told Metro.co.uk: “Following the Australian format, rather than legal marriages, the couples will make lifelong commitments to one another.”

The most recent episode saw Megan Wolfe sat with her mother Jackie and twin brother Mitchell to tell them the news.

At 26, Megan is one of the youngest on the show this year and was set to marry business protection specialist Robert Voysey, also known to his friends as ‘Big Bob.’

Megan, a wellness coach revealed that her brother was “overprotective” and admitted she had a “nervous belly” beforehand.

As she sat opposite her mum and brother she revealed: “I’m getting married,” a couple of seconds before dropping another bombshell, “to a complete stranger.”

Jackie was visibly shocked and couldn’t take her eyes off her daughter as she used her hand to cover her mouth, which had dropped after the announcement.

Mitchell was also taken aback and after a few moments, Megan broke the silence and asked “No words?” as her eyes darted between the two.

After turning her head to her son to confirm what she thought she heard, Jackie responded: “Seriously?” To which she answered back “Seriously.”

After she exclaimed: “Oh my god,” Jackie looked overcome with emotion before getting up and storming out the room.

Mitchell didn’t utter a single word but continued to stare at his sister in complete disbelief.

Earlier in the episode, the wellness coach gave viewers an insight into why she was taking part in the social experiment.

Megan shared she had never been in an “official relationship” but instead was involved in “situationships.”

Despite this, she remained hopeful and even had a scrapbook prepared with plans for her special day.

Megan revealed her ideal man was someone who could match her levels of energy and fun.

On her wish list she described her potential partner as polite, kind, creative, confident and ambitious.

The episode also introduced the series’ first LGBTQ+ pair with Irishman Daniel on half of the trailblazing couple.

Daniel opened up and said including an LGBTQ+ couple was “important”, telling viewers he was proud of his identity and wanted to “share that with the world”.

Married At First Sight UK will continue on Tuesday on E4 at 9pm.
