Mirzapur: Is Pankaj Tripathi leaving Mirzapur?

Mirzapur: Excel Movies release opening credits for series two

Fans of Mirzapur were left shell-shocked upon reaching the season two finale as big characters met their demise and others were at death’s door. There was much uncertainty by the time the credits rolled on the Amazon Prime Video series and this has caused plenty of speculation. But could the King of Mirzapur be departing from the show for good?

Is Pankaj Tripathi leaving Mirzapur?

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Mirzapur season 2

When Mirzapur first launched back in 2018, actor Pankaj Tripathi was one of the big names to be involved in the series taking on the role of chief antagonist Kaleen Bhaiya Tripathi.

Pankaj was previously best known for his roles in Gangs of Wasseypur and Fukrey.

Although the show has opened up with more characters added to the mix and the story expanding out, Kaleen Bhaiya has remained a well-loved figure.

The mobster was depicted as a multi-faceted anti-hero, who still retained a charm which made him likeable.

Therefore, Guddu Pandit’s (Ali Fazal) assassination attempt on him was more shocking and there was a conflict over whether fans wanted to see Kaleen Bhaiya killed off or survive.

From the looks of it, viewers got the latter after he was kidnapped by Sharad Shukla (Anjum Sharma) during a shootout between Guddu’s people and the Tripathis.

Sharad was speeding back home with Kaleen Bhaiya bleeding out in the back of his car but still alive in the finale.

From this scene, it appeared Kaleen Bhaiya was going to make it after all – even if his son Munna Tripathi (Divyenndu) met a brutal end.

So, it looks like even if Munna is now dead and gone, his father is still very much in the show with actor Pankaj not going anywhere for a while.

The character of Kaleen Bhaiya is also a strong bartering chip and one which Sharad seems to be planning to utilise him to his own ends.

Just what Sharad will do with Kaleen Bhaiya remains to be seen but given the character is a tactical man rather than one of violence, it will be something cunning which could again change the game.

Mirzapur fans have some of their own theories about what the new series holds for Kaleen Bhaiya.

One fan called Nitesh Karhe posted on Quora: “Kalin Bhaiyya will be taken to Sharad house.

“Incidentally Sharad’s mother, Shakuntala has a secret crush on Kalin Bhaiyya.

“In fact I think Robin is a child of Shakuntala and Kalin bhaiyya. But Sharad is unaware of it. Sharad brings Kalin bhaiyya as a reward but Shakuntala saves him.”

The fan goes on to theorise: “Shakuntala reveals his secret love for Akhandanand and they both have child. Sharad is flabbergasted. Sharad asks who is his half brother and it comes out as Robin’.

“Robin is raised by Shakuntala’s sister and he is always told as his mother is no more. But when his Mausi is on death bed reveals his parents.

“Instead of love, Rabin grows contempt for both Shakuntala and Kalin and his half brother Sharad as well [sic].”

Another theory from a user called weirrrrrd on Reddit suggested: “Bed ridden Kaleen Bhaiya entrusts Sharad with the further plan to reclaim Mirzapur and kill Guddu.”

They go on to add: “Sharad explains to Kaleen Bhaiya how Beena might be the one who helped Guddu after all.

“Kaleen Bhaiya is initially hesitant to believe that (coz he doesnt know her motivation) and warns Sharad to watch his word [sic].”

Both of these theories suggest a possible partnership between the Shuklas and Kaleen Bhaiya with the second one feeling like a logical step.

However, the first one is also intriguing as there are lots of questions about Radheshyam “Robin” Agarwa (Priyanshu Painyuli) and who his real parents are.

Robin could very well be related to the Tripathis, which would certainly add a new dimension to the story.
