NCIS has a long history of recurring and one-off characters. Nicole Steinwedell is the latter, though in a way that is different from most. But who is Nicole Steinwedell and will she return to the series?
Who is star Nicole Steinwedell?
Nicole Steinwedell actually appeared in two episodes of the long-running series across two separate shows.
The star made her NCIS debut in 2013 in the episode Alibi in NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
During the episode, she played the character of Olivia Chandler for the season 11 episode.
Steinwedell’s next appearance in the NCIS-verse was in NCIS: Los Angeles in 2015.
Unusually, she appeared as a new character, Allison Nelson, for the episode Defectors during season seven of the series.
It is not unheard of for actors to play multiple roles in TV series, however in NCIS, which relies heavily on crossovers and interconnected stories and characters, it is more unusual.
Outside of NCIS, the star has made appearances in a number of different television projects, most recently starting in S.W.A.T as Tabitha in 2021.
Other appearances include The Rookie, Dynasty, Extinction, Criminal Minds, Code Black and Masters of Sex.
However, she also recently appeared in the long-running and hugely popular series Hawaii Five-0, which could prove to be important for the NCIS franchise moving forward.
Will Nicole Steinwedell return to NCIS?
In Hawaii Five-0, Steinwedell played the character of Maureen Townsend during the latest season of the series.
NCIS is moving to Hawaii with the new spin-off set for release later this year, 2021.
Previously, NCIS: LA and Hawaii Five-0 had a crossover episode back in 2012 during the episode Touch of Death in season three.
There have been rumours of a new crossover on the horizon and now it has been established the two franchises are set within the same universe.
However, there is no confirmation of a crossover between Hawaii Five-0 and NCIS: Hawaii when the show drops this summer.
Despite the obvious potential of this crossover event, star Steinwedell might find issue appearing in it due to her being three separate characters across the three shows.
If the star were to appear, the two shows would have to establish one of her characters as the canon version, with Maureen Townsend the most likely candidate due to her being the latest in the timeline.
NCIS is no stranger to crossovers, with the show regularly crossing over with its spin-off shows and other shows beyond it.
Fans are equally excited to see the new series potentially see some Hawaii Five-o characters appear, and perhaps characters from other shows.
One fan on Twitter said: “NCIS is having a Hawaii spinoff? Does that mean crossovers with Hawaii 5-0 and Magnum?”
Another fan added: “Hope their case leads them to Hawaii. #NCIS #MagnumPI crossover. Gibbs and Marcie with Magnum and Higgins.”
A third fan said: “I wonder if they will do a crossover between NCISLA and the NCIS Hawaii.”
NCIS is available to watch on CBA and Paramount+
