The BRIT Awards: Daisy May Cooper mentions the Sugababes
Details of the next James Bond movie have been scarce in recent weeks, but 007 fans were extremely excited earlier this month when a report surfaced suggesting the new-and-improved version of M had been cast. However, the star herself has now revealed what is really going on behind the scenes.
Daisy May Cooper was recently touted by The Sun to be the next M, taking over from Dame Judi Dench and Ralph Fiennes.
If this casting rumour was true, Cooper would be the first younger actor to take on the role of the leader of the MI6.
The report also noted how she was going to be brought onto the next James Bond series as a more comedic and quirky character, much like Q’s persona was changed up entirely with the casting of Ben Wishaw in Skyfall.
However, Cooper has now spoken out about her “role” in the next Bond movie – and it’s bad news for her fans.
Cooper won the “Comedy Performance (Female)” prize at the Royal Television Society Awards earlier this week, for her role in the BBC show Am I Being Unreasonable?, according to Radio Times.
The 36-year-old was not in attendance, but she sent a note to accept the award.
It read: “I can’t be there because I’m filming Bond… jokes, the only M I’ll ever be is mental.”
With this statement, it seems as if the casting rumours of Cooper becoming Bond’s new boss are now a little doubtful. Alternatively, Cooper is very good at dodging these rumours.

Cooper was reportedly brought onto the next James Bond movie as a result of her friendship with writer and actor Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
The Fleabag creator is connected to the Bond franchise following the release of Daniel Craig’s final 007 movie, No Time To Die. She joined the series as a script doctor to add new elements to the movie, including Ana de Armas’ secret agent Paloma.
Waller-Bridge is expected to work on the next Bond series, as well – whenever it hits cinemas. At the moment, Bond bosses have not confirmed when the next series of 007 films will begin production, but there are rumours aplenty on who will be playing the leading man.
In recent days, the Bond odds have exploded with a newcomer as the favourite for the role.
According to BoyleSports, Henry Cavill has just had his lead pipped by former Marvel star Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
While nothing is confirmed just yet, the odds lie in the favour of the Kick-Ass actor, who has a staggering 15/8 on becoming the next agent to take his martinis shaken, not stirred.
Cavill, on the other hand, has fallen behind a little – but his position is still extremely good with a whopping 5/2.
The bookies’ Lawrence Lyons said: “Aaron Taylor-Johnson has shaken and stirred the Bond market this year – whispers of auditions can’t be ignored and now we’ve had little choice but to put him right at the top of the list of likely contenders.”
The James Bond films are available to stream on Prime Video now.
