Our Yorkshire Farm is a docu-series that follows the lives of shepherdess Amanda Owen, husband Clive and their nine children. Together, they run Ravenseat Farm, taking care of both of the animals and the land. The Channel 5 show documents their day-to-day lives and has been a hit with viewers since premiering in 2018.

Where is Ravenseat?

As the title of the show makes clear, Our Yorkshire Farm is filmed in Yorkshire.

Ravenseat Farm is located in North Yorkshire and more specifically, in Upper Swaledale.

The family has previously mentioned in the show that they tend to a specific breed of sheep called the Swaledale sheep.

The 2,000-acre farm sits by Whitsundale Beck which is at the head of the River Swale in the Yorkshire Dales.

If you’re a superfan of the show, then you will be thrilled to know that you can visit Ravenseat for a staycation.

Customers can stay at a shepherd’s hut on the farm for £90-per-night for two people.

Or you can stay at the Owens’ six-bedroom farmhouse which is down the road from Ravenseat for £175-per-night.

As of this time, the Owens are not taking bookings because of Covid but will hopefully be back in business soon enough.

The land is around an hour’s walk west of Keld and is situated halfway through the famous Coast to Coast walk.

Some other attractions in or around the area include Richmond Castle, Easby Abbey, alpaca trekking, The Woodland Scene, the oldest surviving stage scene in Britain and the Swaledale Museum.

When you’re not busy doing anything though, you can just soak up the beautiful surroundings around Swaledale.

This includes Ravenseat, land which has been farmed for 1,000 years.

Amanda and her family have been tenants at Ravenseat for more than 20 years.

However, they do not own the lie and are simply taking care of it on behalf of billionaire Robert Miller.

Amanda expressed her concern regarding Ravenseat in her 2019 book The Adventures of a Shepherdess.

She wrote: “I never want to live anywhere other than Ravenseat but the simple fact is that we are tenant farms.

“Ravenseat is part of an estate and has been for centuries. It doesn’t belong to us.”

This led to the family’s decision to buy another farmhouse nearby.

The dilapidated property is not too far from Ravenseat but plenty of work needs doing to it before it can become their home.

Amanda and Clive are now waiting for planning permission in order to start the renovation work.

Our Yorkshire Farm is available to watch on My5.
