Outer Banks fans have been waiting for news about the release of season 2 since season 1 ended last summer. Now, we finally have an answer. Here’s when fans can watch season 2 of Outer Banks on Netflix.
‘Outer Banks’ Season 2 release date is July 30
By June 2021, fans knew Outer Banks wrapped filming for season 2. But when Netflix announced their releases for the month, Outer Banks wasn’t on the list.
Outer Banks debuted on Netflix in April 2020 while much of the world quarantined thanks to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Season 2 will be released on Netflix July 30.
‘Outer Banks’ Season 1 summary
Season 1 follows John B. (Chase Stokes), a Pogue from the poor side of the island who is in search of his missing father. Eventually, John B.’s Pogue friends J.J.(Rudy Pankow), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Kiara (Madison Bailey), get involved. Together, they spend season 1 on the hunt for $400 million in gold.
Along the way, John B. falls in love with a Kook named Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline). Ultimately, this causes our protagonist to grapple with the strain between the social classes in the Outer Banks. By the end of the season, John B. discovers Sarah’s father, Ward (Charles Esten), is to blame for his father’s death.
Season 1 concludes with John B. and Sarah sailing directly into a tropical storm. After being rescued by a large cargo ship, the duo head to the Bahamas in search of the gold.
‘Outer Banks’ Season 2 cast
A majority of the cast members from season 1 will return in season 2 of Outer Banks. Stokes, Cline, Daviss, Pankow, and Bailey will reprise their roles as Pogues.
What’s more, Esten will return as Ward Cameron. Other Kooks slated to return in season 2 are Sarah’s ex-boyfriend Topper (Austin North), Rafe Cameron (Drew Starkey), and Kelce (Deion Smith).
So far, Outer Banks will introduce two new characters in season 2. Carlacia Grant joins the Outer Banks cast as Celo — a “confident and fearless Nassau girl.” According to the Outer Banks Instagram account, Cleo is “a formidable artful dodger whose world collides with the Pogues.”
Plus, Elizabeth Mitchell is joining the Outer Banks cast. Per Deadline, Mitchell will play “Limbrey, a long-time Charleston native; a compelling woman with a level of toxicity and menace underneath her seemingly courteous ways.”
Chase Stokes can’t wait to ‘tie up all the loose ends’ in season 2 of ‘Outer Banks’
Season 2 will presumably pick up where season 1 left off — with John B. and Sarah having reached the Bahamas. “We’ll definitely have at least a part of Season 2 that’ll take place in the Bahamas,” Outer Banks creator Jonas Pate told Entertainment Weekly.
“The Pogues think that John B. and Sarah are dead,” Pate continued. “So we realized that gave us some dramatic possibilities that we could explore before we get them all reunited.”
“It’s one of those really fun projects where not only is it a fun character, and not only is everyone great [to work with], but the story [is] so interesting,” Stokes told Showbiz Cheat Sheet via Zoom. “To have that opportunity to go back into John B.’s world and tie up all the loose ends is going to be fun.”
Tune in to season 2 of Outer Banks to see precisely how those loose ends get tied up beginning July 30. And stay tuned to Showbiz Cheat Sheet for updates on all things OBX.
