Piers Morgan ripped into Sarah Palin during a tense row over Donald Trump’s disproved claims of election fraud, leading the presenter to brand his guest ‘bonkers’.
Ms Palin, former governor of Alaska, appeared on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday to discuss Mr Trump’s second impeachment trial which is set to begin later today.
Former President Trump is accused of inciting violence before the Capitol riots in January, which resulted in five people dead.
Piers attempted to ask Ms Palin outright whether she thought Mr Trump really won the US presidential election over President Joe Biden, but the interview descended into chaos as she skirted around the question.
‘There was no fraud,’ Piers stated as Ms Palin replied: ‘Just look into that one issue, that being the dead people who voted and then come and tell me: “No they didn’t vote” and “ They legitimately voted”.’
As Susanna Reid sat beside her co-host looking highly amused at the clash, Piers interrupted: ‘I say this with utmost respect to you, you’re sounding totally bonkers.
‘A part of the problem with the Republican Party is that people like you, high members of the Republican Party, are still perpetuating this utter load of nonsense that somehow there was fraud and that stopped Trump winning.
‘Trump got hammered in this election.’
Ms Palin then exclaimed with her own retort: ‘Wonderful, I’m giving you examples and trying to make it easy on you. You guys sound bonkers to tell you the truth because you won’t listen to your guest who is letting you know where some voter fraud may manifest.’
As tensions simmered slightly, Piers told the politician: ‘We like having you on the show but today you’ve come on and just talking nonsense.’
Mr Trump’s administration attempted to file lawsuits over his claims of election fraud but courts in multiple battleground states dismissed them and there has been no evidence to support the allegations.
President Biden was inaugurated into the White House at the end of January and Mr Trump has been spending the first days of his post-Presidency life in Florida.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
