Bodies continued to pile up in the latest episode of Power Book II: Ghost. After losing their connect, Tariq St. Patrick and Monet and Cane Tejada carried out a plan to rob Mecca and frame GTG. But viewers were in for a shock when Lil’ Guap was killed.
Power Book II: Ghost creator and showrunner Courtney Kemp spoke about the episode, the inevitability of Lil’ Guap’s death, and more in an online discussion with fans of the show.
What happened to Lil’ Guap in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’
In the episode, we saw Tariq, Monet, and Cane set their plan in motion. Cane also involved Dru Tejada, who agreed to help only on the condition that he could kill Lil’ Guap. The two were in a staircase at Mecca’s penthouse when Dru pulled out a gun on him. Lil’ Guap, realizing what was about to happen, knocked his weapon out of his hand. But Dru overpowered Lil’ Guap and killed him with his bare hands.
In the end, the crews successfully pulled off the heist. Mecca accused Chef of being the mole and sliced his throat right there in front of Cane. But he also gave Cane a look that said he doesn’t completely trust him either.
Kemp on Lil’ Guap’s death
Participating in a Q&A on Instagram Live, Kemp opened up about Lil’ Guap’s death. She said it was sealed since the first season, but noted that Dru only recently had a chance to act.
“Guap had to die because he called Dru the f-word in [‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 1 Episode 8],” she said when asked why he was killed off. “If you guys remember, if you go watch 108 and you see the interaction between Dru and Guap, and how Dru asks Cane to body the guaps — he says, ‘Go kill them’ and Cane agrees to do it but then keeps Lil’ Guap alive. If you guys go and take a look you’ll see that that’s right. And Dru has held that in his heart.”
She added: “One thing that I will definitely say about Dru is he holds a grudge. Dru can hold a grudge.”
It’s something people had better keep in mind when dealing with him in the future.
Next on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’
Elsewhere, Kemp also gave away a few teasers for the next episode. The big focus, she said, is the aftermath of Carrie Milgram’s death.
“You know Zeke discovered Carrie’s body, so that’s going to energize a whole bunch of people, especially people who used to have a sexual relationship with her,” she said. “What do we know about that? We know that another murder has been committed and that another murder has been committed by someone in our crew. And so what will take place? That’ll be interesting.”
“We know we’ve got a bunch of dead guaps, we’ve got a dead chef, we’ve got a whole bunch of deaths,” she continued. “So all those things have to come into play. And do we think, maybe because it’s episode 9, there are going to be some more big deaths? Let’s see! … There’s only two episodes left in this season, and you guys know how we do it.”
