Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh hosted Good Morning Britain on Monday morning and welcomed Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer onto the show. As the presenters quizzed Starmer about the recent Labour Party conference, Madeley honed in on his deputy leader Angela Rayner. After he branded the politician as Starmer’s “best girl”, viewers quickly took to Twitter to hit out at the presenter.

Madeley asked Starmer if he was keeping Rayner “out of sight” following comments she made about “Tory scum”.

However, the Labour leader swiftly shut down the suggestion, insisting: “No, that’s not true.

“On every Sunday I get all of the newspapers and I faithfully go through them and read lots of things that are apparently happening but bear no relation to the truth,” he explained.

“So, she’s still your best girl?” Madeley asked the politician.

Starmer hit back: “In all seriousness, Angela Rayner’s had a bereavement.”

Viewers quickly took to Twitter to comment on Madeley’s remarks about the deputy Labour leader.

“Richard Madeley asking Kier Starmer if Angela Rayner is still “his best girl”… #gmb,” @Fibutton said.

@TallAndFirey commented: “Christ it’s like watching someone at a job interview when they don’t prepare and are convinced they can wing it. #GMB.”

“‘She’s still your best girl is she?’ FFS @richardm56 how condescending! #gmb #goodmorningbritain,” @my3terrorhawks fumed.
