Richard Madeley infuriates Good Morning Britain viewers by saying David Attenborough's 'not a saint you know' in emotional climate change debate

RICHARD Madeley infuriated Good Morning Britain viewers today by interrupting an emotional climate change debate to proclaim: "David Attenborough's not a saint you know."

The presenter stopped campaigner Dr Gail Bradbook in her tracks as she quoted the acclaimed naturalist.

Gail said: "We're here to get people to have a conversation about climate change.
"I don't want to wind people up and I do apologise for the inconvenience caused, but you can hear the emotion in my voice.

"I have two boys, ten and 13, and they won't have enough food to eat in a few years time.

"Sir David Attenborough said the collapse of this civilisation could happen soon."

Pointedly, Richard said: "He's not a saint, you know. He's just a broadcaster."

His comment didn't go down well with viewers, with one saying: "Don't you ever disrespect David Attenborough like that again."

Another added: "Sir David Attenborough is JUST A BROADCASTER? Are you serious? Richard, don't confuse broadcasters (you) with one on the most learned, informed, experienced and truly great men who have ever walked this earth (Sir David)."

A third said: "David Attenborough is NOT 'just' a broadcaster…. Without him and his documentaries, we as a human race would not currently know the extent of the world's destruction cause by our own race! He is a living legend and should be listened to at all costs!"

Another claimed: "Richard Madeley describing Sir David Attenborough as 'just a broadcaster' demands a public apology."

Someone else added: "Climate change campaigner on #GMB quotes David Attenborough to back up her claims & Richard Madeley responds indignantly in full Alan Partridge mode 'he's a broadcaster!'. #AccidentalPartridge #ThisTime."

Backtracking after the break, Richard said: "By the way, no disrespect intended whatsoever to David Attenborough.

"He's peerless and a national treasure."

Richard – who is known for his Alan Partridge-style outbursts – was last week mocked for his "pumpkin-like tan" on air.

Yesterday he blamed his fake tan fail on confusing wife Judy’s lotion for his aftershave – but GMB viewers weren’t buying it.
