‘Paper Heart’ will be adapted to the big screen by Dark Pictures co-founder and Stone Temple Pilots fan Jennifer Erwin from ‘Not Dead and Not for Sale: A Memoir’.
AceShowbiz -A biopic chronicling the rise and fall of tragic rocker Scott Weiland is in the works.
Officials at new female-led production firm Dark Pictures have optioned the rights to “Not Dead & Not for Sale: A Memoir”, which the former Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver singer wrote with David Ritz and released in 2011.
Dark Pictures co-founder and Stone Temple Pilots fan Jennifer Erwin will adapt the book for the big screen.
Titled “Paper Heart (2022)“, the film is set to revisit Weiland’s troubled childhood and his rise to fame, his struggle with drugs, and his efforts to turn his life around prior to his 2015 death from an accidental drug overdose, aged 48.
In a statement, Erwin wrote, “It’s an honor to have the trust to tell Scott’s story and the ability to portray the lesser known sides of him – the loving and tender man he was, the high school athlete he was, the melancholy soul he was and the legendary frontman that he will always be.”
The movie will be made with the support of Weiland’s family members, who have granted filmmakers access to some of the rocker’s previously unreleased material.
David Vigliano, founder and CEO of Vigliano Associates, which represents the Weiland estate, told The Hollywood Reporter, “We’ve been approached many times about Scott’s story and when this team came to us with their vision for a film, it felt right.”
And producer Orian Williams reveals “Paper Heart” has been a passion project for himself and Erwin for some time.
“We want to make the most authentic film possible about this remarkable artist,” Williams shared. “Beyond Scott’s page turning memoir, connecting with those closest to Scott is important to get the details right. We’re also thrilled to have access to his unreleased music for the film.”
