Simone Ashley has teased her upcoming role in season two of the hit Netflix show Bridgerton.
The 24-year-old, known for her role as Olivia Hanan in Sex Education, has been cast as female lead Kate Sharma and will star opposite season one's Jonathan Bailey.
Speaking about her character in season two, Simone told Daily Star: “They’ve created such a wonderful storyline for her [Kate].”
She continued: “It was wonderful, the cast and crew were amazing.”
The highly anticipated second season will chronicle the pursuit of a suitable marriage for the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony.
Based on Julia Quinn’s romance novels, the second season follows the second book, The Viscount Who Loved Me.
While fans are gearing up for season two, season one of the regency-era romance was binge-watched by millions and became the most watched Netflix series at the time of its premiere.
Season one centred around the complicated romance between Daphne Bridgerton, portrayed by Phoebe Dynevor, and the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset, played by Regé-Jean Page.
While Daphne is set to make her return in season two, the Duke of Hastings will be noticeably absent, with Bailey and Ashley taking centre stage this time around.
There’s no doubt their relationship will come with its fair share of drama, with the smart and headstrong Kate giving Anthony a run for his money.
Season two will see the return of many familiar faces, with Nichola Coughlan reprising her role as Penelope Featherington and Golda Rosheuvel returning as Queen Charlotte.
There will also be a few new faces, with Charithra Chandran stepping into the role of Edwina Sharma, Kate’s sister.
Regarding Sex Education, which has been renewed for a fourth season, the Bridgerton star explained that she has moved on from her role as Olivia but would still “love to know what’s going on” in the show.
The actress has since traded in her school clothes for corsets and is excited for the new season. She said: “I’m excited for the world to see. I mean, get ready…”
The highly anticipated second season of Bridgerton is set for release on Netflix on March 25.
