There’s trouble ahead for Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) in Coronation Street as the Platt family grow concerned for her state of mind…but could she soon develop dementia?
After Gail (Helen Worth) plans a surprise party for Audrey, she’s underwhelmed to find only Gail, Sarah (Tina O’Brien) and David (Jack P Shepherd) at the meal.
Having refused a drink, Audrey grows offended by her old-lady gifts and snaps at Gail for remarking on her squinting to read,
When Rita (Barbara Knox) turns up wanting to bury the hatchet, Audrey gets angry and storms out.
Climbing into the car, Audrey reverses and to her horror, hears a loud crunch.
After realising she has hit Rita’s car, Audrey accuses Gail and Sarah of being ageist as they wonder if she’s losing her faculties.
Audrey continues to be in denial, and later is summoned to No.8 as Gail, David and Shona (Julia Goulding) question her about her eyesight.
Audrey refuses to be bullied into having an eye test, telling Gail in no uncertain terms that all her organs are in perfect working order.
But what’s really going on with Audrey?
Could she have dementia?
Or is there something else wrong with her?
