Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) has given us some unmissable episodes of Emmerdale in the past, with Dawn (Olivia Bromley) and Billy (Jay Kontzle)’s wedding drama being only the latest. But her upcoming courtroom scenes are set to be among the most tense and dramatic yet.
Paige has spoken to Metro.co.uk about what happens at the trial. ‘She sees this trial as her chance to shine, for it to be all about her,’ she says. ‘Meena believes that in her testimony she’s going to shine and convince the jury of her absolute innocence, and anything that the prosecution throws at her, she’s smarter than them and she’ll be able to outsmart them.’
Meena delivers the performance of her life and the jury is enthralled, completely taken in by her. ‘I think the audience will be on the edges of their seats not knowing what’s going to happen or which way it’s going to go,’ Paige reveals. ‘There are points where you can see the jury believing people like Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) and Liam (Jonny McPherson). But then I also think on the other hand, you’ve got points where people are believing Meena.
‘Also with the history of Meena, she does always get away with it. No matter how ridiculous, wild, over the top, crazy she goes, she does seem to get away with it so I think they’ll feel a bit nervous.’
At the end of all this, as everyone waits anxiously for the verdict, there are still some more twists to come as the trial culminates in some shocking events that make the news the next day.
Speaking of the scenes, Paige Sandhu told us, ‘When I found out the storyline that they’ve written, I was like “Ooh this is actually way better than I could have imagined.”’
