Strictly Come Dancing target Alan Carr says he's worried he will end up the next 'Ann Widdecombe'

STRICTLY Come Dancing bosses had better get Alan Carr on the phone for a pep talk if he is their secret male signing for this year’s show.

Bosses have apparently signed up a bloke to put in the show’s first all-male partnership — with Olympic diver Tom Daley and Alan among those rumoured to have been asked.

But Alan fears that he would end up as the “joke act” like Ann Widdecombe.

He raised his concerns after pal David Walliams suggested they could be the same-sex pairing on the series, which starts next month.

Alan said: “I need to lose weight — one of us has to be a dancer. I went to Buenos Aires and said, ‘When I go home, I am going to learn how to tango’.

“I wanted to be sexy but know I will be the Ann Widdecombe — the one dragged around the floor dressed as a matador.”

David joked on Alan’s Life’s A Beach podcast: “I am a dancer.”

But Alan deadpanned: “Oh please, The Birdie Song doesn’t count.”

Last year comedian Bill Bailey became the oldest Strictly winner so far alongside pro dance partner Oti Mabuse.

David said: “Bill set the bar high. Whenever I dance, people laugh — even when I am not trying to make people laugh.

“I have to pretend it’s a joke.”

He added that he used his dad’s “jazz hands” technique, saying: “My dad used to dance by waving his hands around — he didn’t actually move.”

It sounds like even Oti would have have her work cut out getting these two ready for Blackpool.
