John Whaite was told he looked like a potential criminal during a celebrity edition of The Weakest Link.

The former Strictly finalist joined a team of famous foodies during a food and drink special of the hit BBC quiz show on Wednesday night (December 28).

John appeared alongside the likes of TV stars Rustie Lee and Chris Bavin in a bid to win £50,000 for charity.

However, it wasn't long before host Romesh Ranganathan ripped into the TV chef with a brutal joke in which he compared the presenter to a "defendant in court".

Comedian Romesh didn't hold back when he told John: "I'm trying to figure out exactly how you're feeling, because you sort of stand at the podium like a defendant in court."

But John saw the funny side of the jibe immediately as he started giggling at the podium.

Romesh went on to praise the TV chef for his confident approach to answering questions as he continued: "I can't figure out if you're nervous or not, because every time I come to you with a question you look completely unflappable."

He asked John: "Are you nervous?", prompting John to confirm: "From the neck down, yeah. I've got clammy hands and all sorts of things going on but I'm trying to be cool."

He then admitted he was intimidated by the host as he added: "I'm intimated by you as well, to be fair."

Romesh jokingly blushed as he replied: "Oh really? Happens to a lot of people."

John made it all the way to the final, where he was up against Jane Dunn from Jane's Patisserie.

It was Steph's Packed Lunch star John who came out on top as the Strongest Link, which meant he won a whopping £6,900 for the Akt charity, an LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity.
