Susanna Reid not leaving Good Morning Britain after Piers Morgan’s exit

Good Morning Britain star Susanna Reid left viewers concerned on Thursday morning as she failed to appear on the ITV breakfast show.

Kate Garraway stepped in for Susanna, 50, on her usual day hosting the ITV breakfast show alongside Ben Shephard.

While Piers Morgan used to present the show from Monday to Wednesday, Susanna worked an extra day to front the show with Ben, 45.

However, a representative for the star has confirmed that fans have nothing to worry about and that Susanna is not going anywhere.

They told Daily Star: "Susanna often takes Thursdays off and she will continue working has normal."

An emotional Susanna, 50, addressed Piers' departure from GMB on Wednesday's show, revealing she disagreed with her former co-star over the Meghan Markle interview.

She said: "A number of people, of course, will know the news and many of you will not and will be surprised that Piers Morgan is not here this morning.

"Now Piers and I have disagreed on many things and that dynamic was one of the many things that viewers loved about the programme."

Piers, 55, announced he was leaving the role on Tuesday amid an Ofcom investigation into his coverage of Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Ofcom revealed that it had received more than 41,000 complaints over the presenter's claims he believed the Duchess of Sussex had "lied" about feeling suicidal.

Susanna said: "He is without a doubt an outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive broadcaster. He has many critics and he has many fans.

"You will know that I disagreed with him about Meghan’s interview. He himself clarified his comments about her mental health on the show yesterday. There are many voices on GMB and everyone has their say."

"Now Piers has decided to leave the programme. Some of you may cheer," Susanna went on.

"He has been my presenting partner Monday to Wednesday for more than five years and during Brexit and the pandemic and other issues he has been a voice for many of you, and a voice that many of you have railed against.

"It is certainly going to be very different. But shows go on, and so on we go."

Piers appeared in high spirits on Wednesday morning as he walked his daughter to Elise, nine, to school.

He told reporters outside his Kensington home that he was willing to "fall on his sword" after "agreeing to disagree" with ITV over his rant about Meghan.

He said: "I’m just going to take it easy and see how we go.

"I think it’s fair to say, although the woke crowd will think that they’ve cancelled me, I think they will be rather disappointed when I re-emerge.

"I would call it a temporary hibernation."

He added that he is "always in talks with people".

GMB achieved record ratings on Tuesday as millions of people tuned in to see Piers' analysis of Harry and Meghan's interview with Oprah Winfrey.
