The Last Kingdom season five will be on Netflix soon and fans were sad to learn it would be the final season. The series is based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell and the final instalment will hopefully see Uhtred (played by Alexander Dreymon) claim back Bebbanburg. Fans are wondering whether a trailer has been released for the fifth season.

Is there a trailer for TLK season 5?

The Last Kingdom has been airing since 2015 and the historical drama has gained a huge loyal following.

The series is inspired by real historical figures and poignant moments from the Anglo-Saxon period.

At the end of season four, Uhtred helped King Edward (Timothy Innes) save Winchester from the clutches of Sigtryggr ( Eysteinn Sigurðarson).

He also spared the life of his childhood friend Brida (Emily Cox), who had tried to kill him in a fit of rage.

Fans are keen to find out more about what can be expected from the final season, and whether an official trailer has been released.

Sadly at the moment in time, there is no trailer as filming is still underway for the final season.

Production has almost come to an end, with director Jon East saying the final two episodes are being filmed now.

Hopefully, a trailer will come to light in the next couple of months, along with an official release date.

Fans are hoping the new season will air before the end of 2021, and this should be the case.

Director Anthony Philipson shared a photo of himself with Dreymon on the set of the final season.

On Instagram, he said: “Doing my ‘being a director thing’ with someone who I couldn’t admire more.

“A true gentleman and the rock that the entire The Last Kingdom is built upon. It’s been an absolute honour to be part of it.

“Thanks for making me look good Alex!” Dreymon shared the same photo praising the director for his work.

Fans may not have a trailer just yet, but they are gaining plenty of insight through social media and behind the scenes snaps.

They were pleased to learn some of the fan-favourite characters are still alive, including Aelswith (Eliza Butterworth).

She was poisoned at the end of season four and fans were worried she would not survive another season.

However, the star posted a photo of herself in Budapest, where the series is filmed, so this hopefully confirms she will return.

Fans have taken to Reddit to discuss how they think the series will end, with one saying: “It feels like the creators of the show felt like they would go for 6 or 7 as I feel that there are too many storylines to finish with 1 season left…

“Like a battle between the Danes and Saxons in Eofric. Edward has spoken on this already and it is clear there will be a war there.

“Also Brida will grow a baby of anger. There must be some war or revenge with that. Probably find some Danes somewhere and get killed in the process.”

They added: “Aethelstan is a kid now, but when they introduced him in the show they already gave him the title of ‘First king of a united Kingdom’.

“I don’t think they will introduce him such and not have plans for him in the show. There must be some development and seeing him is his teenage years to adult life, which indicates a time jump.

“And then of course Uthred that will still need to retake Bebbanburg. I feel it will be impossible for him to take Bebbanburg, or at least make a great attempt to as that is all he talked about for 40 episodes.

“And still a lot of other stuff to come. Probably some battles inbetween or Uthred having to save Aethelfled again. The usual.”

Viewers are of the opinion one more season is not enough to tell the full story, so they will have to wait and see what adventures are included.

The Last Kingdom seasons 1-4 are on Netflix now.
