This Morning fans slam Sarah Ferguson as ITV ‘loses plot’ in presenter shake-up

This Morning fans have hit out at ITV bosses for giving Sarah Ferguson a presenting role as she made her hosting debut.

Going live on Monday's edition of the daytime show (November 20), Sarah was welcomed onto the show by usual hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary. As the show went on-air, the Duchess of York spoke live from the gallery as she welcomed viewers to the programme.

Ferguson was given the opportunity to co-host along Alison and Dermot, as well as edit the show – prioritising stories that were close to her heart. As a result, the show was geared towards her, with Alison and Dermot tucking into her favourite dish of carbonara, as well as raising awareness of defibrillators.

As the titles finished, Sarah joined Hammond and O'Leary, who took the reins of the show immediately: "Hello and welcome to Monday's This Morning, and a very warm welcome to our guest editor and co-host Sarah!" Alison asked Sarah how she was doing, to which she responded: "Terrified!"

Sarah kept up her feelings of terror as Alison and Dermot tried to put the Duchess of York to rest. "It's your show, I'm the fluff!" she quipped to her co-hosts.

Former Big Brother star Alison was quick to keep the show going as she tipped her hat to Sarah, who was taking on two different roles throughout the course of the show. The Duchess then paid tribute to the staff working on the ITV show, who helped her understand her place within the programme.

"Oh yeah, it's tough – and I have to look in all the different cameras, and there's just such an amazing team here at This Morning," she added. "It's an amazing team, I will tell you – apart from you two," which sent her co-presenters into fits of laughter.

Sarah then thanked Alison and Dermot for having her on and shaking their hands, which Alison doubled down on having the royal on the show by curtseying to Sarah. Responding in a posh twang, Alison beamed: "How do you do?" before laughing extensively.

Later on in the introductions, Sarah got saucy as she welcomed chef Marcus Bean, who would be cooking carbonara later in the show. However, Sarah did not hold back as the cook asked her whether the dish was a personal favourite of hers, as she retorted: "Yes, but you're good looking!"

Alison could be heard scream-laughing off-screen as Sarah was left red-faced at what she had just let slip. However, she soon recovered the links and carried on with the programme.

Despite being Sarah's first time hosting, fans watching the show were less than impressed with her presenting skills. One fan watching the show took to social media to write: "ITV has lost the plot, massive switch off!"

A second user could not believe what they were seeing asking whether they were seeing things right: "Why is Fergie presenting This Morning?" A third fan agreed, joking: "I'm obviously having some fever dream seeing Fergie host."

Some viewers, however, were happy to see the Duchess host the show. One viewer added: "LOVE LOVE LOVE that Fergie is presenting This Morning!"

This Morning airs every weekday at 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
