It’s good news for fans of Coronation Street’s Tyrone Dobbs, David Platt and Kirk Sutherland, as actors Alan Halsall, Jack P Shepherd and Andrew Whyment have all signed new contracts to stay on the ITV soap.
This means they will now be playing their characters for the duration of 2023, with ITV bosses said to be thrilled they are sticking around.
‘Alan Halsall, Andy Whyment and Jack P Shepherd have all been handed new deals to keep them on the cobbles through 2023’, a source told The Sun.
‘Bosses are thrilled, they’re show legends, and it wouldn’t be the same without them. They all jumped at the chance – they love their jobs.
‘Fans will be glad they’re signed on for another year and not going anywhere.’
Andy has played the role of Kirk since 2000. The beloved character is often found walking his dog, Peanut, or working at the Underworld factory, delivering iconic and comedic one-liners.
For Alan’s character, Tyrone, he tied the knot with Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) during a Christmas Day wedding.
While the plan to keep it as a surprise worked, it came with a few problems. Because Fiz believed Tyrone didn’t want a big Christmas, she got in her car and drove out of Weatherfield to get a turkey for dinner.
However, on a country path, Fiz’s car broke down, which left Tyrone fearing she wouldn’t make it to the altar on time.
Elsewhere, it’s a stressful time for David Platt in Corrie right now, as he continues to try and make Max (Paddy Bever) see the true side to extremist Griff Reynolds (Michael Condron).
