Vera’s Brenda Blethyn returns to filming at ITV series starts shooting

Vera: Shane reveals the truth of what he did to his brother

Detective series Vera has been an ITV staple since 2011, and fans last got their fix of new episodes back in January.

Since the series ended, the show has announced some major changes for the next instalments.

Award-winning leading lady Brenda Blethyn will be reunited with David Leon, who starred as DCI Vera Stanhope’s sidekick Joe Ashworth and made his last appearance way back in 2014.

The news came after an announcement about Aidan Healey star Kenny Doughty’s exit from the show.

While viewers will be wondering what could happen in the plot to accommodate the changes, they could get their answers soon.

With filming taking place already, it seems all the gaps will be filled in in the near future.

Locals in Hexham found out filming had been taking place in the town, exciting fans of the Newcastle-based series.

According to Chronicle Live, a letter was posted to residents explaining the location would be used for shooting new episodes.

It read: “We are hoping to use Hexham as the main location for the first episode.

“There are several businesses we are in contact with to organise filming on their premises, we also plan to film on the streets and roads around Market Place on our visit.

“The scenes will mainly be filmed around Market Place and St Mary’s Chare.

“We have been working closely with Northumberland County Council and Highways team to make our filming happen and to obtain the necessary permits to put in place a road control on our filming days.”

This could mean the new episodes will be airing sooner than fans may have anticipated.

With so many changes and things to wrap up from the last series, this will come as welcome news to viewers.

In the past, locals have enjoyed catching a glimpse of the iconic show being filmed, and it seems they may get a chance to do so soon.

Vera is available to watch on ITV Hub.
