"She said, 'I’m going to wait for you, but not long. When you come to your senses, come back to me,'" Costner told Parade back in 2012. "And I did."

Costner and Baumgartner chose to raise their children out of the spotlight on their 165-acre Dunbar Ranch; just outside Aspen, Colorado.

Are Christine Baumgartner and Kevin Costner getting divorced?

On May 2, 2023, news broke that Christine Baumgartner filed for divorce from long-time partner, Kevin Costner.

She filed the claim on Monday, May 1, according to TMZ after citing "irreconcilable differences."

"It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action," Costner's representative told the outlet.

"We ask that his, Christine's and their children's privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time."

A source told Page Six that Costner was "very surprised" by his wife's decision.

Why are Christine Baumgartner and Kevin Costner getting divorced?

On May 8, 2023 a source close to Baumgartner revealed that she was "unhappy" with his demanding work schedule.

“Christine wants them to spend family time at their Santa Barbara home,” the unnamed insider told People.

“During filming, Kevin is not around very much. His absence has been very hard for her.”

The source explained that Christine "wasn't happy about" her husband's "obsessive" work habits.

Another source confirmed these reports to the outlet, stating that the actor's career has often "taken precedence over his home life".

“Kevin hasn’t been home very much for quite some time due to filming, the popularity of Yellowstone, and the time necessary for his other projects. He has been in demand,” the source said.

The divorce proceedings between Baumgartner and the Yellowstone actor have begun.

Not long after she filed for divorce, it was also announced that the western drama series that Costner had starred in since 2018 would be ending.

However, sources claimed that the cancellation of the Cowboy show had "nothing" to do with the divorce of its lead actor, they told People.

Despite rumours that Baumgartner had given her husband an ultimatum, the insider said: "The two situations are unrelated".

However, the move comes after months of speculation that Costner wanted to leave the show and even proposed to "spend a week shooting" the whole last six episodes, Deadline reported.
